Elizabeth McGary was born on 2 December 1806 in Madisonville, Kentucky, to Colonel Robert McGary Sr and Martha Montgomery. By the fall of 1807, the McGary family had moved to a sparsely settled area of Indiana Territory and settled on Indian Camp Creek, where they lived during the War of 1812. Eliza married first Austin W Powell, 5 October 1824, in Gibson County, Indiana (Austin had not divorced his previous wife, so it is not known if their marriage was ever considered legal). Their sons were Austin and Israel Powell. According to the records of the Circuit Court of Gibson County, Indiana, on 17 February 1830, Eliza McGary Powell "petitioned the court for a divorce from Austin W Powell, stating that... she had always 'deported herself toward him as a faithful and affectionate wife' while Austin W Powell 'refused and neglected to provide suitable necessities and comforts' for Eliza and their children. She stated that for two years her husband had become an... 'abandoned drunkard and in consequence he has much misused and in a rough and violent manner has repeatedly beat and ill treated your Petitioner.'" Eliza married second Wright Bond Pritchett, 25 February 1831, in Gibson County. Their children were Ellenora, John, Patsey, Amos, James, twins Mary & Elizabeth, and Frances Pritchett. The Pritchett family moved to Illinois in late 1843 or early 1844. They lived in Allison Township. The family appeared on the 1860 Census of Lawrenceville, Illinois. Wright and Eliza were founding members of Marion Church in the Shelby Precinct of Lawrence County. Eliza McGary Pritchett died of edema, 12 October 1876, aged 69, in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Her funeral was held at the Methodist Church in Vincennes, Indiana, and she was buried in the Pritchett family plot at Greenlawn Cemetery in Vincennes.
