Frederick Andrew Ashbaugh was the son of a British Loyalist, who left the American Colonies after the Revolution and brought his family to Upper Canada to continue their lives under the English Crown

Frederick, his siblings, and all the heirs and descendants of Frderick's father had (and have) the right to the initials "U.E." following their name, to signify that their family were United Empire Loyalists

Frederick married Margaret Ralston in Upper Canada, and they raised 9 children in Barton Township (now Hamilton), Wentworth County, Ontario

In a city directory of 1870, Frederick was listed as a grocer at #10 Ferguson Avenue in downtown Hamilton, at the corner where Ferguson is intersected by King William Street

He died in the City of Hamilton in 1887 and is buried in Hamilton Cemetery
