Clyde was born in Malaka Twp., Jasper Co., IA, and grew up in the Baxter, Independence Twp., Jasper Co., IA area and graduated from the Baxter High School in 1938. He honorably served our country in the 15th Air Force, 97th Bombadier Group during World War II where he was a radioman on a B-17 Flying Fortress.
He and his wife farmed on the Jontz Century Farm east of Baxter until his retirement in 1998. Clyde had also worked for several years at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown. He loved writing poetry and had taught poetry to grade school children. Clyde was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Baxter Masonic Lodge, the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the Scottish Rite.
