Walter was the son of Lloyd S. B. Goodwin and Emezetty Frances Kinslow . He married Ruth May on December 24, 1910 in Indianapolis, Marion Co, IN. She was the daughter of William Daniel "Dan" May and Cora Perry. She was born December 5, 1891 in Port Royal, Henry County, KY, and died April 15, 1972 in Mesa, Maricopa County, AZ.

He died during the Influenza epidemic that went through Indianapolis in 1918 with a contributing factor of Pneumonia.

(My father told me that after his baby daughter died, he sat by her grave until he too became ill, he died in City Hospital, now called Wishard Hospital). Their residence was listed as: 506 Division Street, Indianapolis, IN.

He received an award from the City of Indianapolis for his heroism during the flood of 1913, he rescued many families who were stranded and could not get out of their homes because the river came up so high.

►2. Roy Leon Goodwin born September 2, 1913 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN and died October 31, 1918 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN.

►3. William Daniel Goodwin born August 6, 1915 in Detroit, Wayne County, MI and died August 5, 1981 in Mesa, Maricopa County, AZ.

►4. Emma Coreen Goodwin born October 21, 1917 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN and died August 10, 1918 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN.
