ABERDEEN -Polly (Lankford) Heaney, 87, passed away on June 7, 2011 at Spring Creek Independent Living in Meridian, Idaho.

She was born March 29, 1924, to William and Mariah (Whitaker) Lankford in Somerset, Kentucky. Three months before Polly was born, a tornado demolished their home. The family lived with relatives until they relocated to Indianapolis, IN, where her father helped build the "Brickyard" home of the Indy 500. After three and a half years they moved to Fort Collins, CO, where Polly attended a one-room school house for a year.

In 1930, the family made their way to Southeast Idaho, where she met and married Edward (Ned) Heaney on February 6, 1948. They made a life in Grandview, where they farmed and raised five children.

Polly is survived by her children: Michael Heaney, of Aberdeen, Margo (Don) Nicholson, of Meridian, Monica (Charlie) Wiebe, of Aberdeen, Marcia (Brad) Hager, of Las Vegas, NV, and Mark (Anita) Heaney, of Pocatello; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Verlene (Bob) Mann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters: Eula Varley, Alma Johnston and Inez Cornforth; two brothers, Olen and Glen Lankford; and one granddaughter, Courtney.

Polly was a member of the Catholic Church. She loved spending time with friends and family. She spent many hours cooking those special pies and cinnamon rolls. Her neighbors knew the never-ending pot of coffee 24/7. Sometimes they even came on in to fill the pot if it was low … as the door was always open.

Many generations of kids called her "Grandma Polly", no matter their last name. She spent joyful hours reading novels, playing pinochle or community service at tax elections, working the golf course and many auctions. Always ending her day with the warmth of "Good Ole Country Music" or gospel softly playing through the house.

Remembered as feisty, never without lipstick and White Diamonds, lovingly admonishing her grandchildren, with many a catchy phrase - "And then they hung pictures."

There will be a celebration of Polly's life at her home in Grandview at on the 25th of June. Friends and family of Polly are welcome and encouraged to attend, the celebration starts at 4 p.m. (come as you are).

In lieu of flowers, Polly's favorite charity was Habitat for Humanity at: www.habitat.org/cd/giving/donate.aspx?
