The 1860 Dade County, MO Census lists William Poindexter, 32, and wife Rebecca, 32, with children: Ellen, 11; Mary, 10; Arche, 9; William B, 7; John D, 3; and James S(F) Jacobs, 9. William has $4,000 in real estate and $1400 in personal property.
Children Margaret J, 9, and William C, 6, have been added in 1870. Rebecca J, 40, is head of household.
An online source says William Thomas died March, 1865, Dade County, MO. From information on the Fold 3 website, William enlisted in the Confederate army in the state of Virginia, 1861, serving as a Private in Company C, 56th Regiment. He was wounded at Gettysburg, captured as a prisoner of war, and had the middle finger of his right hand amputated July 5, 1863. As a sick or wounded prisoner of war William was taken to DeCamp General Hospital, David's Island, New York Harbor in mid July, 1863. Apparently he was released or escaped at some point, and is back with his Company on the muster role as a 3rd Sergeant for May - August, 1864. There are several receipts for clothing issued to him in the fall of 1864, the last on December 28, 1864.

PENNSBORO - Relatives and friends of Mrs. Rebecca Poindexter, of Everton, were shocked to hear of her death last week. She had been here visiting her son J. T., and returned home in the afternoon. A few hours later he received a message that she was dead.
Rebecca died at age 88 from Vascular disease of the Heart. Her son James F Jacobs, South Greenfield, MO is the informant on her MO Death Certificate.
