Roy B. Sparks, of Shrewsbury and formerly of Pylesville, MD, died June 7, 2011, in York. He was the husband of the late Catherine R. (Picker) Sparks.
He was born May 17, 1934, in Street, MD, a son of the late John W. and Mary B. (Cochran) Sparks.
Roy was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He worked for Asplundh Tree Services, Churchville, MD, for 20 years. Formerly he had worked for Poplar Grove Garage, near Havre De Grace, MD.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy L. Burkins and husband, John of Shrewsbury; son, Robin R. Sparks and wife, Tenea of Pylesville, MD; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Howard H. Sparks of Pylesville, MD, John W. Sparks of Aberdeen, MD, and Leonard D. Sparks of Elkton, MD; three sisters, Madeline Johnson of Jarrettsville, MD, Marie McCarter of Street, and Helen Mitchell of Bel Air, MD.
Roy was predeceased by two daughters, Polly Ruth Sparks and Charity Kathleen Sparks.
There will be a viewing from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., Stewartstown. The service will follow at 3 p.m. at the mortuary with the Rev. Melissa A. McDade. Cremation will take place following the funeral service.
