DELHI, Iowa -- Dorothy (Whiting) Beyer, 92, went to be with our Lord Monday, June 6, 2011.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at St. John's Catholic Church, Delhi, with the Rev. John Kremer officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Delhi. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home, Earlville, where there will be a scripture service at 8 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1919 (19 was her "lucky number"), on a farm outside of Dyersville, daughter of Lawrence and Gertrude (Cavanagh) Whiting. Dorothy attended Xavier High in Dyersville, graduating in 1936. In 1940, she eloped with Eldon "Banty" Beyer, of Epworth. They eventually moved to Delhi to raise their family.
Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for Farmers Silvers Springs Cooperative, which her husband managed.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Delhi, the Delhi Women's Club and the Delhi Legion Auxiliary. She was past-president of the Dyersville Deanery Council of Catholic Women and past-president of the Dubuque Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women.
After retirement, Dorothy and Banty moved to the Maples on Lake Delhi. Dorothy loved to read, play cards, travel and visited numerous countries. She and Banty loved to dance and did so any chance they got. Dorothy started quilting and made numerous quilts and wall hangings for her family and friends. She treasured her time with family and had a special bond with her grandchildren. The grandchildren always said their best vacations were at Lake Delhi.
Surviving are her children, Phillip (Concha) Beyer, of Fredricktown, Mo., Lynne (Glen) Middleton, of Plano, Texas, Jon (Cindy) Beyer, of Waterloo, Peg (Ben) Pasker, of Delhi, Mary (Chip) VanPelt, of Garland, Texas; a son-in-law, Bill Chamberlain, of Orange, Conn.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Whiting, of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon "Banty" Beyer; a daughter, Judy Chamberlain; and a grandson, Christopher Beyer.
