DELHI--Lawrence F,Whiting, 86, died at his home early Thursday morning. He had been ln poor health for several years and sferiously ill for a brief time. Funeral services were held Saturday,at St. John's Catholic church, Delhi, with Msgr. Raymond P. Duggan officiating. Burial was In St. Francis cemetery, Dyersville. He was born Oct. 15, 1878 at Worthington, the son of Frank and Elizabeth McQuirk Whiting. He received his education in the Worthington and Dyersville schools. He was married Sept. 14, 1904 to Gertrude Cavanaugh. Mr. Whiting farmed in the Worthington area for several years, and later managed the Farmers Shipping Association and then operated a meat market in Dyersville, They moved to Delhi in the early 1940's where he operated a meat market until his retirement in 1945. Surviving are six children, Mrs. Stanley (Fances) Martin of Tyler, Tex.; Mrs. Urban (Anita) Ament of Dyersville, Mrs. LeRoy (Marie) March of Dubuque, Mrs. William (Rose) Werner of Hopklnton, Frank, Mrs, Eldon (Dorothy) Beyer and Gene, all of Delhi; one sister, Mrs Aurelia Pike of Sun Prairie, Wis.; 27 grandchildren and 23 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife In 1960, an infant son, one brother and two sisters. This information was published by the Monticello Express May 20, 1965.
