Rex Alton Lilly, 85, passed away May 31, 2011. He was born March 8, 1926 in Hagerstown, Indiana to Shirley Joseph and Bertha Louise Lilly. He married Phyllis Faye Mollenkopf, Sep 16th, 1961 in the Manti L.D.S. Temple.

Rex enlisted in the U.S. Navy with a group of his buddies, and was stationed in Okinawa when the war ended.

Rex was actively involved in sports from a young age. He saw his first high school basketball game when he was nine years old and was hooked on the game until the end of his life. He graduated from Brigham Young University and became a teacher and coach to fulfill that basketball bug. One of his greatest joys was coaching the Hurricane High School Tigers basketball team.

Gardening was always a favorite, necessary, hobby. His Indiana roots taught him to love rich, black soil, but Rex did wonders with the red sand of southern Utah. His favorite crops were tomatoes, strawberries, okra and pecans. Rex and Phyllis served a LDS mission to Adam Ondi Oman where his expertise with trees was needed.

Rex had great joy in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many capacities. He was a kind man that loved his family and taught them by example and gentle suggestions. Rex is Survived by his wife Phyllis Faye (Dozier) Lilly of St George, Chuck (Anna) Mollenkopf of Ivins, Angie (Jim) Marshall of St George, Deby (Will) Clark of Stockton, MO, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in Death by his parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister and 1 great grandson.
