DAVENPORT - Funeral services for Marilyn (Lyn) Liljequist, 81, of Davenport, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. until service time at the mortuary. A private inurnment will be held Tuesday at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Liljequist died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at her residence following a lengthy illness. Memorials may be made to Genesis VNA Hospice Association or to the Humane Society.

Marilyn Jeane Koopmann was born on September 4, 1924, to Walter and Eda (Peters) Koopmann. Their only child, she arrived on their fourth wedding anniversary. Lyn married Herbert Leroy Liljequist on September 3, 1945. They shared 56 years of marriage until Herb's death on November 3, 2001. Lyn graduated from Davenport High School (now Central) in 1942. Employed for a year as a secretary-stenographer at the Bureau of Analysis (now defunct), she left to attend a radio school in Omaha, finishing in the top ten of her class. She was hired by United Air Lines, and received further training in Oakland, Calif., and then was assigned to UAL's dispatch office at LaGuardia Field Airport in New York City, where she worked as a teletype and radio operator. While in New York, she became acquainted with Herb while on leave from the Navy. They did most of their courting by mail, marrying when the war ended.

They returned to Davenport in January of 1946. Herb went to work for his father at the former Liljequist Linotype. Lyn was a homemaker and mother until late 1958 when she joined Herb in the typesetting business. The family's 70-year business closed in 1979. Lyn worked for the Davenport Police Department in the records department for 25 years, until her retirement in 2004.

Lyn is survived by sons, Michael and life companion, Joe Dickow, Edgewood, Ky., Richard (Mary Lou) East Moline, Ill., and John (Laurie) and Jim (Tami), all of Davenport; daughters, Barbara Liljequist, Angier, N.C., Marian Liljequist, Coralville, Iowa, and Marge and life companion, Susan Balaam, St. Paul, Min.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a young son, Thomas, and four cousins.

She dearly loved her family and all their dogs and cats and her co-workers at the police department. Nevertheless, her happiest and most fulfilling period was that spent as a student pilot. She gloried in her solo flights.
