She was born March 20, 1912, in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Monroe and Lottie Dovel Kissling. She was a member of the Mount Olive Bretren Church and had been employed by the Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community as a nurse's aide.
She was married to Emory Robert Shifflett, who died April 14, 1993.
She is survived by fours sons and daughters-in-law, Fred Gilbert and Helen Shifflett of Harrisonburg, Ray Emory and Susan Shifflett of Penn Laid, the Rev. Alvin Monroe Shifflett of Marion S.C, and Gene Nelson and Brenda Shifflett of Grottes. Nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday in the Mount Olive Brethren Church in Pineville at 2 p.m. by the Revs. Fredric G Miller and Alvin M Shifflett. Interment will be in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The Shifflett family will receive friends at the Kyger-Pence Funeral Home near McGaheysville Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.
