Ellenville, Dec. 16 - Melvin Lewis died at the local hospital on Thursday, December 7, after a month's illness. He was born at Briggs Street, July 14, 1878, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lewis. He married Mary Ellen McCombs about 32 years ago. She died in 1933. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Olive Lewis of Ellenville; Merilda, Idella and Irene Lewis of Jeffersonville, and three sons, Melvin, Jr., of Rock Hill, George of Phillipsport and Raymond of Jeffersonville; one brother, Walter Lewis of Greenfield, and one sister, Mrs. Jennie Reed, of Jamaica, L.I. Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 10, at the Pulling Funeral Home, the Rev. Eldon Shoemaker officiating. Burial was in the Poplar Grove cemetery at Phillipsport.
