John Byron of this city passed away Saturday evening about 11 o'clock. He was born about the year 1818 in the townsland of Carrickittle, parish of Kilteely, county of Limerick, Ireland, where he grew to manhood until 1848 when he came to New York. He was in the east for six years before going to Cincinnati, Ohio, where in 1855 he married Catharine Murray and in 1856 they came to Minnesota. On June 18th, 1856, they made their homestead claim in St. Mary township. Think of a farmer in this county today raising wheat, cutting it by hand and hauling it to Hastings for 60c a bushel, as was done the first seven or eight years of the early settlement of this county. He was survived by his aged widow, two sons, John M. of Janesville and James of St. Mary, and three daughters, Mrs. Cahill, Bridget and Mary of this city. Funeral services were held at the Waseca Catholic church and burial in St. Mary Catholic cemetery.
