Funeral services for James Ray Burnett will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Cleatus Taylor and Bro. Rodney Crist officiating.
Interment will follow at Seymore Cemetery with J.W. Burnett, Cole Hurley, Greg Mays, Cole Burnett, R. Cord Burnett and Adam Dowell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Ogle and Gerald Burnett. Graveside services will be under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
James Burnett passed away Thursday morning, June 2, 2011, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Yantis on Oct. 29, 1928, the son of Elmer and Artie Wyatt Burnett.
He married Betty Massey in Emory on Nov. 28, 1950. She survives.
Mr. Burnett was a milk truck driver. He served as a deacon at County Line Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Other survivors include one son, Billy Burnett, and wife, Kathryn; one daughter, Brenda Vess, and husband, John; one brother, William Burnett; and one sister, Bonnie McAfee, all of Yantis; 10 grandchildren, Carey Lobin, J.W. Burnett, Carrie Hurley, Greg Mays, Cole Burnett, R. Cord Burnett, Adam Dowell, Ashley Dowell, Stephen Vess and Michael Vess; and 12 great-grandchildren, Keigan and Lasca Lobin, Lainy and Landon Burnett, Kinley and Presley Hurley, Harlie and Brock Mays, Julie and Allison Dowell, Makayla and Abrianna Dowell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruby Newsome and Louise Dunavin.
Memorials may be made to the Seymore Cemetery Association.
