GRAYVILLE, ILL. —
Helen Christine Coffee Wiley, 92, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville.
She was born in Harrisburg on Dec. 19, 1918, to Delia and Arthur Coffee.
On June 23, 1940, she married Byford Wiley, also of Harrisburg. They were married for 64 years, until his death in 2005. She graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1936, then attended Southern Illinois University, where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught first grade at Dorrisville School in Harrisburg from 1938 to 1941. She also worked for some years as a substitute teacher in the Albion school system. Her membership in Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority spanned 75 years.
For many years she was an active member and an elder in the Albion Presbyterian Church. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, who will be greatly missed by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Constance Coffee and Kathleen (Wayne) Gidcumb; and a brother, Kenneth (Loretta) Coffee.
She is survived by three children, John Richard (Kaye) Wiley of Fenton, Mich., Robert (Bobbi) Wiley of Marion and Jeff Wiley of Fenton, Mich.; six grandchildren, John (Diane) Wiley, Michael (Jenny) Wiley, Rob Wiley, Christi (Alex) Chastain, Joshua Wiley and Jesse Wiley; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Ingram Funeral Home in Albion. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in Lindale Memorial Gardens in Eldorado.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Albion.
