Allen 'Junior' Bowman Jr.
NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. - Allen 'Junior' Bowman Jr., 76, of the Bluefield-Tazewell Road, North Tazewell, died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, N.C.

Born Jan. 7, 1926, in Anawalt, and raised in Horsepen, Va., he was a son of Ethel Payne Bowman of Rural Retreat, Va. and the late Allen Bowman Sr.

He was a member of the Horsepen Church of Christ. Mr. Bowman was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 103rd Medical Battalion in Germany during the Korean War. He worked at Gary No. 14 mine, was a member of the UMWA Local at Gary,and was an avid cattle farmer.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Bowman Kirby and Hilda Jane Bowman.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Betty Shrader Bowman; two sons, David A. Bowman and wife, Kay and Stephen S. Bowman and wife, Crystalall of North Tazewell; one daughter, Deborah Bowman Maxfield and husband, Kenny of North Tazewell; three grandchildren, Amy Acosta, Lee Bowman, and Cody Bowman; one great-grandson, Colt Acosta; two brothers, George Bowman of Tazewell, Va. and Ed Bowman of Rural Retreat; four sisters, Elizabeth Dalton ofRural Retreat, Hazel Moore of Abbs Valley, Va., Janet Weeks of Beckley, and Louise Short of Newark, Del.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with Walter Schwitzerlett and Johnny Elmore officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.

Pallbearers will be Kenny French, Bill Adkins, Bobby Stilwell, Scott Christian, JimWaddle, Harry Yates, Ricky Sheets, and Eddie Shrader.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Trent, Hobert Kennedy, Dan Webb, Paul Goldsworthy, Frank Horn, and John Book.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. today.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Christian Acres, Box 3005,Bluewell, WV 24701 or to Christian Viewpoint, P.O. Box 832, Maitland, FL 32751.
