Simpson Ceyleon "Tunney" Day passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 28, 2011.

He was born November 27, 1927 in Blue Water, New Mexico to Simpson "Sammy" and Myrl Rowley Day. Simpson married Evelyn Newell in the Salt Lake Temple on June 8, 1948.

He served in the U.S. Army during 1946-1947. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for thirty-five years in the Woodshop, Electrical Shop and Minute-Man Missile program. Simpson owned and operated Day's Beeline Service Station in Layton. He was a master of all trades. The kid who had a hard time in school became a literal "rocket scientist."

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed serving as an Explorer Scout leader and served faithfully in many church callings. Simpson and Evelyn welcomed many children into their home where they were loved and nurtured. Grandpa loved his grandchildren and cared about their successes. He will be lovingly missed by his family and many friends.

Survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Evelyn; children: Doreen (Steven) Byington, Christine (Ned) Young, Ilene (Sterling) Neblett, Sharon (Max) Blair, Roger (Barbara) Day, Sam (Cindy) Day, Janette (Richard) Merrill, Ray (Susan) Ennis. Siblings: Divina Snow, Thell Day, Shirley Butler; sister-in-law, Joan Brady; forty-four grandchildren; seventy-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Arthur Day.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in the Syracuse Fifth Ward Chapel, 1475 West 700 South, Syracuse, UT. A viewing will be held on Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Myers Layton Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, and Saturday morning from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
