Ellen was the daughter of Louis C. and Ellen Dorothy (Waters) McCracken.
She was the oldest of four siblings; sisters:
Gladys Louise (McCracken) Battin, (1904-1966)
Marjorie P. (McCracken) Vincent (1911–1949)
Ruth Evelyn (McCracken) Newton (1913–1988)
Ellen was a graduate of Fairhaven High School class of 1921. She attended the New Bedford Textile School in New Bedford, Mass.
She was the wife of Stewart Harley Gilston. They married May 19, 1923, in Warren, RI and filed for divorce in 1932 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. About this time, Ellen and her daughter relocated back to Fairhaven, Mass. where they had family members. The divorce decree was finalized on Nov. 26, 1935.
They had two children together, a son,
Stewart Harley Gilston, Jr., (1923-1923)
who passed at age 13 days; and a daughter,
Barbara A. (Gilston) Bosworth (1928-1973).
Ellen was very close to her parents, sisters and their families. She was also a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was the grandmother of seven and great grandmother of twelve.
