Mrs. Arlette Hammond, 81, Was Buried Saturday Morning.
Funeral services for Mrs. Arlette Hammond, 81 years old, who died at 6 o'clock Wednesday eening of last week at her home in Hurdland of infirmities of old age, were Saturday morning at the M. E, Church in Hurdland, conducted by the Rev. R. T. Finnell of that place. Burial was in the Cockrum cemetery southeast of Novelty. She had been in failing health for several years.
Eight children survive: Mrs Iva Parsons, Mrs. Meta Scheultz, Lonzo Hammond and Sam Hammond off Hurdland; Homer Hammond of Knox City; Lee Hammond of Weeping Water, Nebr.; Mrs. Anna Wyatt of Harrisburg, Mo.; Mrs. Saphronia Mason of Macon and Charles Hammond of Hallsville, Mo. There are also twenty grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Before her marriage to James R. Hammond Jan. 11, 1864, Mrs. Hammond was Arlette Cockrum, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cockrum. She was born May 12, 1849, in Shelby County. She was the mother of twelve children, three of whom are dead. She was a member of the Christian Church.
