Left Iowa to come to the Oregon Territory in 1852, traveling on the same wagon train as her brother, James Hamlin. Married John W Johnson 15 January 1843 in Illinois or Ohio. (John Johnson's Oregon Donation Land Claim gives two different locations.) She died soon after they arrived in Jackson County. John's ODLC gives her date of death 05 Sep/Oct, 1854. She left two young daughters. After her death, her daughters were boarded with different families. According to Mary Ann Hamlin Griffin's interview with the Grants Pass Courier, published in 1927, Mary also lost a baby on the way across the plains.
