After the death of her husband, Mary moved to Clermont Co., OH for a period of time. According to pension application records, Mary Hamlin was awarded two bounty land warrants, one for 40 acres in 1850 and one for 120 acres in 1855 as the widow of a soldier in the war of 1812. She applied for and was granted a widow's pension under the act of Congress dated Feb 14, 1871. Her application was admitted August 23rd 1872 for a pension of eight dollars per month, retroactive to February 14, 1871. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Exira, IA, to be near her oldest son, Nathaniel. She died there in 1876.

Grave marker gives date of birth as 1776, age at time of death as 100 yrs. This is in error. She was born in 1786, making her 90 years of age.
