"Bessie" was the daughter of Clarence Brand and Cecilia Cravey, her parents are buried in Gillette Cemetery in Manatee County, FL

She was the wife of:
1) Dayton H Kirkland (1904-1975), married 1931, divorced in 1940
2) John Edward Anderson (1893-1981), married 1944, buried in this cemetery
3) Thermon Baird Howard (1910-1992), married in 1983

Bessie Anderson, 90, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005. A graveside service was held Saturday, April 16, 2005 with burial beside her 2nd husband, John Edward Anderson at Roselawn Cemetery.

Annie Elizabeth "Bessie" Brand Kirkland Anderson Howard was a native Floridian and spent her entire life in the state of Florida. She was born in Tallahassee on Aug. 28, 1914, but grew up on Terra Ceia Island and lived on there until she moved to Tallahassee in July 1957. While living on Terra Ceia Island, she was a cosmetologist and owned Bessie's Beauty Shop.
When she arrived in Tallahassee in July 1957, she opened the Seminole Beauty Salons, which were located on Jackson Bluff Road and Lake Bradford Road. Bessie was a member of the Seminole Baptist Church that was located on Ausley Road from 1957 until the church moved to another location in 1999. Bessie then began attending Calvary United Methodist Church and worshiped there until her death.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Cecilia Anderson Roberts Yon and a son, Dayton Lamar Kirkland. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Karen Lynn Kirkland Kennedy and Gary Lamar Kirkland; two great-grandchildren; & one great-great-grandson.
Bessie is also survived by a brother, Clarence Cleveland "Dick" Brand. She also leaves behind a special grandson by her second husband, Alva Anderson; a good friend Willis Underwood; many nieces and nephews; and her caretaker and friend, Cynthia Godbolt, who assisted her needs at the close of her life.

She was preceded in death on June 23, 1975 by her first husband, Dayton H. Kirkland; on Aug. 7, 1981 by her second husband John Edward Anderson; and on Oct. 22, 1992 by her third husband Thermon Baird Howard.
