From "Biographical Souvenir of Texas" written in 1889... "Isaac Ripley was born in Botetourt Co. Virginia. He is the son of James H. Ripley, a native of Bedford County Virginia..."
He began active life at farming in Hawkins County, Tennessee. He removed to Texas in 1846 and added stock raising to his trade. Ripley served a short time in the Confederate Army during the War Between the States, but was discharged on account of over age.
On the 10th of March 1841, Mr. Ripley married Nancy Crews, a daughter of William Crews, of Virginia. Eight children were born to them.
