A son of Hiram Groves and Nancy Martin, he married Victoria Isabell Speck on September 12, 1877 and was the father of Lucien Stanley (1877-1935) and Sarah M. (b. 1883). He was a farmer, living in the village of Tippecanoe. He suffered a stroke of paralysis and died four days later.
