Samuel F. Aldrich was the youngest child of Frederick Aldrich and Catharine Finch. His parents were among the earliest settlers of Armada Township, Macomb County, Michigan. Samuel's first wife was Lucy Ann Armstrong, whom he married 22 September 1850, in Macomb County; she died 6 August 1855 and is buried in Hadley Cemetery; Samuel's second wife was Mariette Edgett and they married 4 March 1857 also in Macomb County. Samuel and Lucy had three children who died in infancy; he and Mariette were the parents of 4 children: Albert, Mattie, Susan and Catherine. He was a farmer by occupation and made his home in Armada Township, Macomb County, until 1875 when he purchased a large farm in nearby Mussey Township, St. Clair County. He held several political offices in the village of Capac.

"Samuel F. Aldrich Dead - He was one of the oldest settlers in Macomb County - Capac, Michigan, Aug 3, Special - Samuel F. Aldrich, aged 66 years, died at his home in this village today at 11 o'clock of consumption. Mr. Aldrich was one of the oldest settlers of Macomb and St. Clair Counties. He was born in York State in 1828, and at the age of 5 years, together with his parents, emigrated to Michigan and settled in Macomb County. He had traveled through nearly every township in this section of the state, and in his early days spent a good portion of his time among the Indians, and became quite a fluent talker in their native tongue. He was highly respected by all who were acquainted with him, and his many friends mourn his loss. He leaves a widow, one son and two daughters." (Detroit Free Press, Saturday Aug 4, 1894)
