Frederick Aldrich was the son of Nathan Aldrich and Lucy Clark Aldrich; his father was a direct descendant of George Aldrich who immigrated from Derbyshire, England, to Dorchester, Massachusetts, in 1631.

In 1810, Frederick was living next to his father in Ontario County, New York. Frederick joined the great migration from New York State to Michigan. In 1837, he purchased 80 acres in Macomb County; by 1859 he owned 140 acres in Armada Township there.

Frederick married Catherine Finch, daughter of Albert Finch and Lydia Knickerbocker, also of Ontario County, New York. They were the parents of 10 children.

Frederick's will was probated July 21, 1865, in Macomb County: Heirs: Ira F. Aldrich, Lucy Knickerbocker, Frederick Aldrich, Jr., Darius Aldrich, Abigail Rowley, Lydia Frost, Nathan Aldrich, Aaron Aldrich, Samuel Aldrich, and Othello Aldrich, grandson. Date of death 10 June 1865, signed June 20, 1865
