Uzilla Jane Showen was the daughter of Nathaniel Franklin Taylor 1824-1883 and Eleanor Dye Taylor 1778-1841.
Uzilla married John Acton Showen 1854-1933.

Two daughters of Nathaniel and Eleanor, Julia and Uzillah Taylor, attended Grinnell College and later taught school. The two daughters married in a double wedding ceremony at Toleo, Tama, Iowa on March 19, 18779, Julia to William Whitmore Ballard and Uzillah to John Acton Showen.

John and Uzilla's children were:
William Ellsworth Showen 1882-1967,
Ben J. "Bennie" Showen 1884-1971,
Bessie Showen 1885-, and
John A. Showen, Jr. 1890-1913.
