Opal was the next to the youngest daughter born to CF Carr and M.I. Dawson Carr in Ottawa, Kansas.

On June 10, 1923, she was united in marriage to Loren Melvin Murphy in Coffeyville Kansas. To this union three chlidren were born, one daughter and two sons.

Opal and Loren lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Oregon and California. They owned and operated restaurants in the 1940's and 1950's in Ottawa Kansas, Edinburg and Pharr Texas. From 1957-1969 they managed mobile home parks in Southern California.

Opal suffered a stroke in 1967. She and Loren moved to Wichita Kansas in 1969. Loren died in 1974, Opal stayed in Wichita until 1975 when she moved to Torrance California where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. Because of a severe illness in 1979 she moved into Torrance Convalescent Hospital where she remained until her death in 1984.

Opal was known as "Ma" to her grandchilren.
