Wm. Harbrecht died at his home in Chesterton on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 29, at 5 o'clock, after a lingering illness from consumption. He was taken ill about a year ago, and this summer went to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in the hopes of regaining his health, but while there grew no better, and his physician warned him to return if he would wish to die at home. The funeral will be held next Sunday at 10 o'clock, it being delayed for a brother of the deceased, Lewis Harbrecht, who is now on his way from Santa Fe, and who will reach here Saturday. The deceased was a man 36 years old, and leaves a family of a wife and four children. He was engaged in the saloon business with August Shultz for the past two years.

Son of William and Fredericka (Seiferts) Harbrecht. Husband of Henrietta "Etta" (Smith) Harbrecht. Father of Clara Crowe 1880-1960, Augusta Schultz 1884-1905, Lillian Reglein 1887-1960 and William Harbrecht, Jr 1889-1968.
"My Grandfather William was a fisherman. In my research, I found a notebook with his customer's names written down in what he called 'Fish accounts.' About a year before his death, he was taken ill with consumption (now called tuberculosis). Around July 15th, 1891, he and his brother Lewis went to Sante Fe, New Mexico, with hopes that my Grandfather would regain his health. But he grew no better, so his physician ordered him home to die. My Mother told me her father probably caught this illness from being a fisherman and most likely from damp clothes. He was only 36 years old at the time of his death, November 29th, 1891..."
