Katherine J. Yarwood gently passed away May 21, 2011 at the age of 96, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She was born May 5, 1915 to Henry M. and Mary Fallert, one of eight children, and was raised in Harrington, Washington. In her twenties she worked at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Davenport and there she met Charles E. Yarwood, known affectionately as Dutch. His courtship with Katy consisted of countless hours fly fishing together, a lifelong practice that resumed after Dutch returned from North Africa at the end of WWII and they were married in 1944. After living in both Coulee Dam and Ephrata they settled in Spokane and raised their three children: Bill (Kelly), Marcia Miller (Jim) and Melanie Delaney (Bob). To date her family includes ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Katherine was a longtime member of Saint Charles Catholic Church, active in the church guild, Garden Club of Spokane, Boy Scouts and Campfire Associations and she passed on her sewing, knitting, gardening and cooking skills to her daughters. Summer weekends were often spent at Thomas Lake with the family. She was the sparkplug of our family and was a genuinely happy person and had a smile for everyone. Her personal interest in all the lives around her never wavered.

She loved family gatherings and dearly loved her husband, Dutch, who died in 1990 after 46 years together. She always missed him and was anxious to be reunited with him – and now she is.

Family was her life and we all greatly benefited from the attention she poured on us all.

Katherine, Mom and Grandma Katy – she is already sorely missed by so many.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3520 E. 18th Ave. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall St.
