Wife of Kemper Shumate, daughter of Henry F. and Elizabeth (Berkley) Shacklett.

MRS. KEMPER SHUMATE
Frances Berkley Shacklett was born Oct. 23, 1831, at Warrenton, Va., and came to Missouri when 5 years of age. With her parents she settled at Palmyra, Mo. where she spent her girlhood.
May 25, 1854, she was married to Kemper Shumate at Palmyra by Rev. Hobson and to this union were born 4 sons and 6 daughters.
Her husband, two sons and three daughters have preceded her across the river. Those who remain to mourn her are Harry, of Palmyra; Ed, of Prescott, Ariz.; Mrs. Emma Nickell, of near Paris; Mrs. Susie Murray, of this city, and Mrs. Peggie Schmidt. Besides these children she leaves three sisters and one brother.
When 14 years of age she united with the Methodist church and remained a consistent member the rest of her days.
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the residence on North Center Street, conducted by Rev. I. T. Nash, after which interment took place in the city cemetery.
