A veteran of the Civil War, having served as a private with Company I, 44th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.

He has been misidentified as the one who served with the 27th Maine Infantry, but that individual moved from Biddeford, Maine to South Hadley, MA (and died in 1926 per pension recs).

He is also NOT the one who served in Co H, 20th Maine, as the Maine Veterans Cemetery Records has erroneously listed. That soldier died in Somersworth, NH in 1925, per pension records, and was buried there.
