Harmannus was born in the village Bedum in the northwestern central part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen. His parents are Hindrik Klugkist, 36 years, wholesale dealer, licensed victualler (grossier, slijter), and Cornelia Hindriks Kruizinga.

Harmannus Klugkist, 21 years aged, son of husk miller (pelmolenaar) Hendrik Klugkist and Cornelia Kruizinga, married on 13 May 1861 in his birthtown Bedum, province Groningen, to Pieterke van Maar, also 21 years aged, born in the little country village Westerdijkshorn, municipality Bedum, daughter of Heine Klaassens van Maar and Grietje Alderts Smit.

- Cornelia, born 7 March 1862;
- Grietje, born 18 June 1863;
- Hendrik Jacob, born 8 July 1864;
- Heina, born 18 February 1867. FAG nr. 47924787. She

Their destination is Manhattan, Gallatin County, in the southwestern part of Montana.
Daughter Grietje died probably before June 1900, very likely in Gallatin County.

In 1910 widower Herman Klugkist (71 y) lived with his son Henry Klugkist (46 y) and his sons Herman (18 y) and John (17 y), both born in Holland, in the small community Denver, about 10 miles northwest of Grangeville, the seat of Idaho County, in the north central part of Idaho.

Harmannus died in 1912 at the age of about 72 years, very probably in Denver, Idaho, and was buried in 1912 in Grangeville, Idaho, but shares with his wife Pieterke a gravestone at Hills Cemetery near Churchill in Gallatin County, Montana.
