He was born as Hendrik Jacob in the tiny country community Westerdijkshorn, about a mile northwest of the village Bedum, the seat of the municipality with the same name, in the northwestern central part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen. His parents are farmer Harmannus Klugkist (25 y) and Pieterke van Maar.

Farmer Hendrik Jacob Klugkist, married on 10 March 1892 in Adorp, province Groningen, to the also 27 years aged Louwina van Zijl, born in the country village Sauwerd in the former municipality Adorp, northwest of Bedum, province Groningen, daughter of wood buyer (houtkooper) Jan Gerlofs van Zijl and Geertje Pieters Oosterhoff.

On 17 March 1892 and 10 March 1893 they had in the rural community Westerdijkshorn, mun. Bedum the sons Harmannus and Jan.

On 27 March 1896 farmer Hendrik Klugkist arrived at the age of 32 years with his wife Lowina (32 y) and their children Hermanner (4 y) and Jan (3 y), his parents Harmanner (56 y) and Pieterke (55 y), and his sister Grietje (33 y), on the SS Southwark, which had departed from Antwerp, at the harbor of New York, Ellis Island. Their destination is Manhattan, Gallatin County, in the southwestern part of Montana.

His wife Louwina must have died before June 1900, very probably in Gallatin County, Montana.

Farm laborer Harry (!) Klugkist (36 y), single (!) lived in June 1900 with his sons Herman (8 y) and John (7 y) and his parents, farmer H Klugkist (61 y) and Pieterke (60 y) in the former town Salesville, since 1927 called Gallatin Gateway, in the western part of Gallatin County.

In 1910 Henry Klugkist (46 y) lived with his sons Herman (18 y) and John (17 y) and his father and widower Herman Klugkist (71 y), in the small community Denver, about 10 miles northwest of Grangeville, the seat of Idaho County, in the north central part of Idaho.
His father died there in 1912 and was buried at Grangeville.
His son Herman died in August 1918 in Washington state from pneumonia during his service in the navy.

In 1920 widower Henry Klugkist lived in Gallatin County, Montana again, probably on his own.

Henry Klugkist died on 12 October 1925 in Montana, very likely in Gallatin County, at the age of 61 years.
