Gertrude Vander Burg was born in 1889 in the Dutch settlement of Orange City, Sioux County, Iowa, daughter of Willem van der Burg alias William Vander Burg and Everdina alias Diena Lammers, who were both born in the city of Rijssen in the eastern part of the Dutch eastern province Overijssel, not far away from the German border.

In 1895 and 1900 she was still residing at her birthplace, the Dutch settlement of Orange City, Sioux County, Iowa.

Gertrude Vanderburg Henry married on 10 December 1911 in Manhatten, Gallatin County, Montana to Henry Alberda, who had Dutch parents too.

In 1940 the 51 years aged Gertrude was living with her husband Henry Alberda, 51 years aged too, and their children Evadena, 25 y, like her mother born in Iowa, Peter B, 22 y and retail clerk in a hardware store, and Gertrude H, 17 y, both born in Montana, at a rented home at Manhatten, Gallatin County, Montana. In 1935 they lived at the same home.
