Frances was born Bertha Frances Martus according to her birth record. Later records show her going by the first name Frances. Her parents are John and Elvira Adams Martus and her siblings are Effye, Edna and twin brother, George. Frances lost her parents to Typhus fever the year she was born. According to family history, Frances and her siblings were raised by their grandmother, Theresa Adams, until her death in 1898.
The 1900 U.S. Census shows Frances as a boarder, along with her siblings in a Catholic Orphanage in Vermillion, South Dakota. The 1910 Census has her and brother, George as pupils, still at a Catholic Orphanage.
On January 20, 1915, Frances married James Quinn in Vermillion, Clay County, South Dakota. They had two sons, Donald and Bernard.
After James's death Frances married Charles Burke and lived in Oregon where she passed away at the age of 98.
