Nellie Elizabeth Scrivens Williams, 94, of 129 Elm St., Athens, Pa., passed away Friday morning, May 20, 2011 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

Nellie was born in Terry Twp., Pa., on April 30, 1917 the daughter of John Scrivens and Emily May Gowin Scrivens. She was a graduate of New Albany Vocational High School, New Albany, Pa. On July 25, 1938, Nellie married William Max Williams in Sayre. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 28, 1963. Nellie was employed by Brewer's Five and Dime Store and by Horton's Variety Store in Athens for a number of years. She was later employed by Sayre Lingerie for many years until her retirement. Nellie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Athens, Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 43, Sayre, Order of Amaranth in Waverly, N.Y., and T.O.P.S. Nellie enjoyed reading, going out for dinner and going for rides in the car.

She is survived by: her sons, James M. Williams and fiancé Gail Casey of Seymour, Conn., Robert D. Williams and wife Diane Williams of Athens; grandchildren, James M. Williams II. and wife Susan of Devon, Conn., William C. Williams and Kate Phillips of Athens, Kyle Williams and wife Nicole of Sayre, Alison Platukis and husband Jude of Corning, N.Y., Erica Greer and husband Ian of Athens; great-grandchildren, Felix, Caleb, Shane and Sienna; several step-grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by, step children, Ruth Wells and Richard Williams; sisters, Hazel Scrivens, Lorena Harris and Agnes McCarty; and brothers, Lloyd, Freeman and Frank Scrivens.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, at the First Presbyterian Church, 622 S. Main St., Athens, Pa., with Rev. Nelson Kopatz officiating. Interment will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa. There are no calling hours. The family requests that memorial contributions may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, 622 S. Main St. Athens, PA 18810 in Nellie's memory. The Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home of Sayre is assisting the Williams family with service arrangements.
