He entered this world June 19, 1926, in Clearbrook, VA, as the youngest of nine children born to the late Harry Hunter Brown and Eliza Hamilton Brown.
Thaddeus attended Frederick County Schools in Winchester and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge, Thaddeus returned home to farm the land. In addition, he found a second calling as a nurse's assistant at the Winchester Medical Center where he was known as "Leroy". He retired from the Medical Center after 32 years of service.
To his family, "Thad" or "Big Daddy" was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Thaddeus married the late Christella Louvada Washington on Sept. 13, 1947, and they were blessed with seven children. He was baptized as a member of Third Zion Baptist Church, Success, Va, where he served on the usher board for many years. Thaddeus and Christella later joined Guildfield Baptist Church, Millwood, Va. There, he became a dedicated and trusted deacon.
Thaddeus leaves a legacy of cherished memories to five daughters: Deanna Walker of Stephens City, Va., Juanita (Bobby) Lindsay and Theresa (William) Parker of Winchester, Va., Alverna (Bobby) White of Manassas, Va., and Maxine Jones of Martinsburg, WVa.; one son, Thaddeus (Andrea) Brown Jr. of Winchester, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Maxine Brown; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one special niece, Gilbert Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Charles "Pete" Brown; three brothers: Randolph "Shorty", Julian "Junior," and Horace; and five sisters: Alverna, Edith, Itessa "Mike," Marie and Hilda.
Funeral services will be 12pm Monday, May 23, 2011 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Winchester, Va. with Pastor Gilbert M Mack, Jr. officiating and Elder Harold Brown, the eulogist. Burial will follow at Orrick Cemetery in Winchester, Va. with Military Honors Afforded by the Winchester VFW Post #2123.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening, May 22, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Winchester, Virginia
