Joseph H. Work Takes Own Life by Hanging Tuesday

Body Found by Mrs. Work About Three O'clock on Tuesday Afternoon

Joseph H. Work, 70 years of age and a resident of State Center for the past 11 years, took his own life by hanging Tuesday afternoon some time befor 3:00 o'clock at his home here. The body was found by Mrs. Work shortly after that hour, when she had occasion to go to the garage. The body was suspended from a roof brace with a window sash cord and was only a short distance above the floor.

Dr. A. D. Woods was immediately summoned and pronounced the man dead, though he was unable to say how long he had been dead. Mr. Work had been in poor health for some time, being nervous and inclined to worry greatly over little things, members of his family said. His condition is believed to have been the cause of the act.

County Coroner R. R. Haupert was summoned, and after his investigation decided not to hold an inquest. The body was removed to the Brimhall-West Funeral Home, where private funeral services are being held this afternoon.

Joseph Henry Work was born on Dec. 28, 1866, in Richland county, Illinois. He was married to Miss Rosella Wilkerson in Illinois in 1892, and the family moved to Zearing in 1925. They came to State Center about 11 years ago.

Mr. Work had been a member of the Baptist church for the past thirty years. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Ralph of this city and Raymond, of Amarillo, Texas, and a brother, Frank Work of Rhodes.
