With the exception of his daughter Blanch, his wife and four children moved with him to Iowa from southern IL. After living on several farms, Frank & Margaret retired, purchasing an acreage in Rhodes.
Frank was an excellent carpenter, working in furniture and things of this nature during retirement. He and his son, Virgil, raised broom corn and Frank made brooms with an antique family broom machine. The machine is today the property of the "Old Threshers Association" of Mt. Pleasant, IA. These brooms were always sold out at the end of the season. Frank also raised his own tobacco, which was strong enough to separate the men from the boys.
