Adam Shock migrated from Pennsylvania to Ohio about 1812. He and his family, along with brothers Michael and John, traveled down the Ohio River to Cincinnati. His parents are believed to immigrated from Germany around 1750.

Adam married Barbara Hoover. They had 13 children: Jacob, David, Daniel, Catharine (married Jacob Pfoutz), Martin, Nancy, Jonas, Adam, Barbara, Michael, Elizabeth, Lucinda (married Martin Fiant and then Jacob Eikenberry) and John.

Death date note: Per FAG contributor 47300438, "When I was at the cemetery, I recorded 2 Feb 1843 and furthermore his will was written on the 2 Feb 1843 so the January date is impossible." Date was 9 Jan 1843.
