Archie Jefferson Vickery served in the Civil War as a private under General E. C. Walthall in the 29th Infantry (Company D). Captured on November 24, 1863, at the battle of Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was transported to Military Prison, Louisville, Kentucky, on November 30, 1863, and then Rock Island, Illinois, on December 3, 1863. Discharged from Rock Island on March 2, 1865
