OBIT:

Ralph G. Charlton, Sr., native born Fairview District cattleman and rancher passed away suddenly Friday evening following an afternoon of elk hunting on his range land east of the Nanmum, part of the original Charlton homestead. He had been interested in elk much of his adult life, was instrumental in getting the elk herd started in his area and was one of the first hunters of elk in the county. He had a hunting cabin in the hills of his range and often invited groups of friends there. Mr. Charlton was born August 11, 1891 in the Fairview District, the son of pioneer homesteaders, Mr. and Mrs. George C. Charlton. He attended the Upper Nanum grade school and graduated from Ellensburg High School. He was one of the early day cattlemen of the valley and active in Mid-State Cooperative Assn.

He was married to Marie C. Nelson in Ellensburg, October 8, 1919. She preceded him in death on February 20, 1948 following an automobile accident. He later married Belva A. Hilscher who survives him at the family home. Also surviving are two sons, Ralph G. Jr., and George B. Charlton, a daughter, Mrs. Dorse Schnebly; his mother, Mrs. George C. Charlton who lives at the original homestead; three brothers, Glenn, Max and J. L. (Bob) Charlton, all of Ellensburg; two sisters, Mrs. Will Roberts of Pasco and Mrs. John Haberman of Ellensburg.
