===================

Peter Shaffer is the son of Abraham Shaffer and Susannah Maniece, and a twin to brother Henry. Abraham and his parents arrived from Germany in the mid-to-late 1700s, originally to Pennsylvania. Their first child (Jacob) was born there about 1782, and by 1785 they had removed to Rockingham Co., Virginia, where the rest of their six children were born. The children are: Jacob (c. 1782-), Abraham (c. 1785-), Sarah (23 Aug 1788-1849); Peter (10 Jan 1791-13 Jul 1880); Henry (10 Jan 1791-? d. young), and David (1794-Dec. 1959).

Peter and one of his brothers (likely Jacob) went to Clark County, OH in 1810/1811 to prepare land for their parent's arrival in 1812. It's likely he met his future wife during this time, as he married Sarah Thomas, dau. of George & Nancy Thomas on 16 Mar 1812 in Clark Co., OH.

It is not known exactly where/when Peter's parents died, but it has been published {without source records} as Abraham, 1827 in Clark Co., OH; Susannah was alive as of 1820 US Census in Clark Co., OH so it's likely they are both buried there.
