ASTORIA — Gilbert F. "Gib" Munro, 75, of Naselle, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, in Astoria. He was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Seattle to Robert William Bell and Vivian Anna Johnson.
For two years he served in the U.S Army. On Nov 9, 1972, he married Catherine "Kitty" Moran in Kodiak, Alaska. Mr. Munro was a teamster. He also worked as a longshoreman, fisherman and cook. He retired as a teamster June 1, 1986.
He was a member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus (fourth degree). He was also a lifetime Elks member, a charter member of the Kodiak Elks Lodge, and a member of the American Legion.
Family members said he enjoyed cooking, reading, the computer, traveling and story-telling about Alaskan adventures.
In addition to his wife who resides in Naselle, he is survived by a daughter, Tara Munro of Rapid City, S.D.; two sons, Jeff Munro of Dayton, Ore., and David Munro of St. Helens, Ore.; a stepson, Dan Henderson of Eugene, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Colleen Henderson of Astoria; two granddaughters, Erin Fennerty and Leslie Ramsey; two brothers, James Munro of Suttons Bay, Mich., and Glenn Munro of Missoula, Mont.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Laura Henderson, in 1986; and two sisters, his twin, Marlys Heglin, and Susie Lagasse.
A rosary was said on May 11, at Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries, 576 12th St. A funeral Mass was held on May 12, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Interment was private.
