Robert L. Bannerman, 90, who worked 23 years for the Central Intelligence Agency before retiring in 1970 as deputy director for support services, died Dec. 12 in a nursing home in Niceville, Fla., after a stroke.

Mr. Bannerman was born in Red Granite, Wis. He graduated from George Washington University.

He had been the State Department's top security official when he joined the CIA as deputy director of security in 1947. He later moved into support services, where he had responsibilities over personnel, finance, logistics, communications, training and security.

His first wife, Grace Powell Bullard, died in 1984, and their son, Robert Bullard Bannerman, died in 1987.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Carrie Nelle Moye of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; a daughter from his first marriage, Celia Elaine Bannerman of Herndon; three stepchildren, F. Conyers Thompson III of New York, Moye F. Thompson of Santa Monica, Calif., and Ashley Thompson of Berkeley, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
