Funeral services for Mrs Emma Madlem, 76, who died Thursday afternoon in her home in Elkhart, were held Sunday at 2 pm at the Prairie Street Mennonite church, Elkhart, in charge of the Revs Joe Graber and John Gingrich. Service was held at Madlem home at 1:15 pm preceding the church service. Burial in the Olive cemetery, north of Wakarusa.
Mrs Madlem, wife of Samuel Madlem, was born Dec 21, 1870, in Locke township, to Abraham and Nancy (Yoder) Weldy. Her marriage to Mr Madlem, who survives took place Feb 18, 1890.
For a number of years Mr and Mrs Madlem lived on a farm near Wakarusa, but have been residents of Elkhart for the past few years.
In addition to her husband, Mrs Madlem is survived by 5 sons, Levi of Mildred, Elon of Heston lake, Alvin and Wilbur of this place, and Eldon of Elkhart; 2 daughters, Mrs Vernon (Anna) Bechtel of near Wakarusa and Mrs Edwin (Mabel) Vantine of Elkhart; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Levi Weldy of this place and Amos Weldy of Montgomery.
Mrs Madlem was one of a family of 13.
The deceased was a member of the Mennonite church.
