BENNINGTON Floyd Egbert McIntire, 78, of Beech Street died Monday morning, Sept. 29, 2008, at the Vermont Veterans Home, following a long illness.

Floyd was born in Pownal on Aug. 11, 1930, son of Hugh K. and Lorena Amadon McIntire. He received his education in local schools. He served in the Army during Korean War. Following the war he returned home and went to work at the Pownal Tannery and worked there until his retirement.

Floyd enjoyed carpentry, cooking, and gardening around his home, but his favorite passion was fishing.

He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy Bronson, whom he married May 6, 1950 in Bennington. Besides his wife, he leaves one son, one daughter, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by one brother, Herbert McIntire, and by two sisters, Lillian Gates and Phyllis Morse.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., with the Rev. Louis Guariniello officiating.

Interment will follow with military honors at Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
