She was born August 10, 1919 in Seattle, Washington, to Walter Leslie James and Arla Belle Swift, and spent her growing up years on Mercer Island, WA. She graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle and attended University of Washington before moving to Portland.
She married Bob Stone on Feb. 15, 1941, and raised two daughters, Susan Elizabeth and Virginia Ann. Betty loved her God, her family, dogs and life in general. She enjoyed traveling and golfed until she was 87. She was daughter, sister, wife, Auntie Betty, 'Stoney', Mommy, Mom, Nana and Nana 'the jock'.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Virginia "Gina" (Jim) Ahrens, of Boise; grandsons: Brian Boennighausen and Maki, of Poway, CA, and Kirk Boennighausen, of San Diego, CA; granddaughters, Andrea Ahrens-Cocozzo and Chris, of Boise, and Melanie Ahrens, of Boise; and six great-grandchildren: Courtney, Victoria, Kayla, Kai, Teah and Misa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; daughter, Sue Stone; son-in-law, Roger Boennighausen; and siblings: Enid, Marjory, Emmabelle, Robert and Annabelle.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Willow Park Assisted Living and her St. Luke's Hospice team for their loving care.
A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Boise, on Saturday, May 21 at 11:00 AM. Her ashes will be inurned at a later date in the Memorial Garden at the Episcopal Parish of St. John the Baptist, Portland, OR.
The family requests no flowers, but suggests memorials may be made in her name to St. Luke's Hospice, 190 E. Bannock St, Boise, ID 83712, or St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 2206 N Cole Rd, Boise ID 83712.
